Travel to NAOJ

- Airport:

In the Tokyo area, there are two international airports: Narita and Haneda. Please confirm which airport you will be arriving at. For directions from each airport to the nearby stations, please refer to the [LINK]. We do not recommend taking a taxi directly from the airport to the conference venue, as it can cost over 20,000 JPY.

- To the nearest train stations:

Musashi-sakai: Take trains from either of the two airports. See [LINK] for details.

Chofu: From Haneda airport, the easiest way is to take an Airport Limousine. There are 1-2 Airport Limousines per hour. See [LINK] for details.

- Public transportation in Tokyo :

If you use buses or trains frequently, we strongly recommend purchasing a "Welcome Suica" or "Pasmo Passport" card. Both cards are a rechargeable prepaid card, and can be used for riding trains or buses, purchases at convenience stores/shops/vending machines, etc.

Welcome Suica: https://www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/welcomesuica/welcomesuica.html

Pasmo Passport: https://www.pasmo.co.jp/visitors/en/

Either card works around Japan, so don't worry which you obtain. Please keep in mind the cards are only valid for 28 days, and any remaining balance cannot be refunded.

- How to ride on bus (from Musashi-sakai or Chofu to NAOJ Mitaka campus):

Pay 220 JPY (or just touch a charged Suica/Pasmo card on a reader) at the front bus door when you get on. At the destination, get off from the backward door.

- How to ride on taxi:

See [LINK] for detailed instruction and an explanation card in Japanese for the taxi driver.

- Should I bring cash?

Yes. In the Tokyo area, most shops accept credit cards, but there are some local shops or restaurants that don’t. Additionally, vending machines for train tickets or recharging Suica/Pasmo cards may require cash. At the NAOJ Mitaka campus, the canteen has a vending machine for meal tickets, but it only accepts cash. We will collect the banquet fee (5000 JPY) in cash at the conference reception.
